Welcome

Scientists' schedules are busy with experimental work, data analysis,  meetings, writing grant proposals and manuscripts among many others. In between those activities researchers also need to find time to stay on top of the newest literature. That is why most of the scientists are just screening through papers and mostly look at the figures, without reading an article as a whole.

The idea for this blog comes from this phenomenon. Scientists judge the papers by how well they can understand the story based on their graphical representation in figures. Therefore paying attention to graphical design and following several simple rules can increase the impact of your research article.

As a general rule figures should clearly represent findings and in a convincing way tell the story behind the data. The content of this blog will vary from single panel makeovers (image representation, graph design, etc), through makeovers focused on composition to schematics and visual abstracts.

Should you have any ideas or comments about the work, please feel free to contact me!
